Sunday 3rd February

With a strong wind blowing from the West the 16 riders obviously did a sensible thing and headed right into it towards Stanhope.  As usual there were two separate groups.  The culture group taking a direct route to Stanhope while the others headed up over Hamsterley and Howlea to join the main road at Wolsingham.  The teams met up at Frosterley and took the back road to Stanhope for lunch.

With the wind blowing ever stronger the majority returned to Bishop via the direct route while five hardy souls set off up Unthank Bank to Bollihope Common.  The ascent was made more interesting by the cross winds which were strong enough to blow you right off the road.  Home for this group via Eggleston, Folly Top and Woodland.

Today’s mileages between 40 and 60 miles.

Additional Route:- Bram and Glyn set off for Piercebridge but due to ailments a diversion was taken to Archers Farm Café at Walworth for coffee and icecream.  A return home via Walworth Gate, Redworth and Shildon doing their best to avoid the strong winds.

This will be Bram’s last ride for a while due to one of his epic caravanning expeditions.!
