Sunday Rides – 18th May 2014

The 8 o’clock start group took advantage of the good weather for a tour of the North Yorkshire Dales consisting of Swaledale, Wensleydale, the villages of Reeth and Hawes and the infamous Buttertubs Pass.

Route out was Hilton, Piercebridge, Richmond to Reeth and a reverse of the up and coming Tour de France Route over the 25% gradients of the Buttertubs Pass and down to Hawes for lunch  at the Wensleydale Cheese factory.

After a lunch of basically cheese a home route down Wensleydale to Askrigg, Redmire, Bellerby and on to Richmond for a short break at the Co-op to replenish water bottles.  A final push over Gilling West, Winston, Staindrop and West Auckland.

Over 105 miles covered at an average speed  approaching 16 miles per hour with nearly 7,000 feet of ascent.
