Sunday rides – 29th March

Strong winds, the threat of drizzle, and a Scottish time trial meant only 7 gathered in the marketplace this week. Split into 2 groups, 3 headed down to Piercebridge whilst the other 4 aimed for a dry ride to Barny.

Barny route out was – Evenwood Gate, Ingleton, Winston, Caldwell before a sprint up the hill into Whorlton. To beat the wind a pace line formed, only to be occasionally broken up by sign sprints. Cafe stop at Barnard castle to refuel, before rushing back via Whorlton, Staindrop trying to avoid the rain. Around 40 – 45 miles covered, although one early riser getting 70 miles in.

As well as the the above Dave, Jon and Keith took part in the Killhope Reliability Trial organised by Houghton Cycling Club over a distance in excess of 100 km.

What should have been a reasonably challenging hilly ride was turned into an epic by strong head winds and constant torrential rain.

The route started in Lanchester with a turn around at Nenthead and a return over Crawleyside.  (a bit hilly).  65 actual miles covered with 6500 feet of ascent and several numb extremeties.

Dates for your Diary:
Teesdale MTT 26 April
The club Morecambe ride looks to be happening again in Late June. So now’s the time to try and pick up the mileage, or jump in with a different group on a Sunday morning and start building up for a steady 170 miles.
