Sunday 23rd May

Missed a few updates – as weather gets better less chance to update site.

Sunday saw the sun shining with the hottest day so far. We set off heading for Great Ayton via Bishopton, Long Newton, Yarm (quick stop to top up drinks bottles) and Seamer. At Great Ayton we had a quick cafe stop with the option to head back from here or continue onto Osmotherley. Winding through the lanes we headed for Swainby via Little Ayton, Easby, Ingleby Greenhow, Great Broughton, Carlton and Faceby finally reaching Swainby for the climb over to Osmotherley. At the top of the climb we were slowed up by the car parking and traffic trying to get through – the advantage of being on a bike is you can squeeze through gaps and get away while drivers are arguing about who is going to give way.

Cafe stop for sandwiches or ice cream in Osmotherley then down the hill and across the A19 to start heading back via Wesr Rounton, Appleton Wiske, Hornby, Girsby and Hurworth (with another quick stop to fill bottles). Leaving Hurworth for the final leg to Croft, Cleasby, Manfield, Piercebridge and back to Bishop with a total distance of around 100  miles for most riders. Temperatures reached 104 at one point with a few red arms and legs at the end.

Lets hope the weather stays warm and dry for a while.
